Beginning Knitting: Learn the basics of cast-on, knit, and bind-off in this beginner  class. For the adult (ages 13 and up) class, we have an ultra-cute purse pattern or scarf for beginners that will teach you all the basics. No previous experience is necessary. $36 plus materials* for 2 sessions

Speed Knitting: Knitting is a zen-like activity suited to the tranquil personality with loads of time on their hands. You've got to be kidding! Sure, we might use knitting to calm our nerves, but let's get real, we all want to get on to the next project in the queue. What Not to Knit: Back by popular demand, Mary and Theresa return fo r their always informative, sometimes comedic discussion of the lessons every knitter needs to know. In Session I they will go over how to choose the right sweater pattern to flatter your body type. Session II will cover how to make the proper adjustments both before and after knitting to guarantee you will love and wear the final garment. Bring project ideas, sweaters that fit or don't fit and a pencil for note-taking. No pre-requisites. $25 per session or $45 to attend both sessions.

3-Hour Hat: This quickie workshop was so popular last winter that we decided to offer it again this year. Theresa works with multiple yarns to create this quick cabled hat, especially welcomed by the young set, or the young at heart. In the 2-hour class you'll learn everything you need to know so that finishing the hat up at home (that's the third hour!) will be a snap. Skills taught: Multi-strand knitting, cabling, seaming. NEW!!! Convertible Cabled Wrap: We've seen several rectangular wraps in the  stores lately that can be fastened in alternate positions to create different looks. However, most seem to be fairly boring, knit in simple stockinette with three buttons. Chris Bylsma offers a unique pattern called "Vlinder Wrap" that utilizes purposely dropped stitches, multiple loop closures and simple cables to fashion an ingeniously wearable garment in line with today's trends.  Felted Mittens: Mittens are a wintertime necessity in Chicago and a great gift idea. The base of these mitts is felted, yet a rib-knitted cuff added after felting insures a snug fit. Flashdance Scarf: In honor of the remake of the classic  80's film, we're doing our own scarf version of "flashdance" here at Knitche. Kathy took a class with Prism's Laura Bryant over the summer where she learned how to harness hand-dyed yarns to cause intentional color pooling. You'll never look at a hand-dyed skein the same again. Skills taught: Calculating color repeats, Fisherman's rib stitch. Pre-requisite: Knitting 201 or equivalent. 1 session: $20 plus materials*.

Kids' Knitting 201: For our charity knitting project here at the shop, we've been  knitting adorable teddy bears to send to kids in Africa (see front page). The project lends itself perfectly to our Kids' 201 class because the pattern requires only basic knitting skills and is super fun to customize. Once your bear is made, we'll package them up to send to Africa. And don't worry, you can quickly knit another one for yourself if you're having separation anxiety. Pre-requisite: Kids' Beginning Knitting or its equivalent. 2 sessions, $36 plus materials*.

 Kids' Craft Bootcamp: Join us in an all-day class for some knitting, crocheting and beading fun. We'll start with knitting instruction, followed by a beading session next door at Bead Heaven, break for lunch at Giordano's and end back at Knitche for a crochet wrap-up. With any luck, you'll be able to wear your project(s) incorporating all three techniques home! Ages 8 and up. Pre-requisite: none (well, maybe endurance would help!). 1 session, $70 plus materials*.

 Clapochet Scarf: Based on the wildly popular "Clapotis" knit shawl on Knitty.com, the "Clapochet" is worked on the diagonal with chain spaces and triple crochet. Using a soft yarn with a long color repeat sequence makes a cozy scarf or shawl with dramatic stripes. Skills taught: Treble crochet, treble cluster. KNIT AND CROCHET-ALONGS
Knit-Alongs and Crochet-Alongs are informal instructor-guided sessions focused on the completion of particular project. Drop in and out as you like ($6 per 1-hour session) and benefit from an on-site instructor working on the project along with you and other enthusiastic knitters/crocheters.
 Fortnight Block Party: Susan will lead a fearless group of afghan knitters seeking to create a masterpiece, block by block. Each session she will cover a different block from the Great American Aran Afghan and you'll have 2 weeks to complete it before moving on to the next block. Skills taught: Cabling, bobbling, chart reading. Pre-requisite: Knitting 201, experience with cables.

PRIVATE LESSONS - A LITTLE ONE ON ONE
Private lessons are available at $25/hour ($12.50 for 1/2 hour). This is a great way to get some personal attention on a particular project. A 15% discount is offered for second and subsequent participants in the lesson. Please inquire at the shop to arrange a mutually agreeable time.
*General class information: Please register at least one week prior to class start date. Payment at the time of registration will assure your spot in the class. If you need to cancel for any reason and are able to provide us with a 48-hour notice, we will gladly refund your registration fee. Cancellation after that, will incur a $10 processing fee and the remaining registration fee will be applied as “class credit” toward a future Knitche class. We may need to limit class size to optimize the experience. We reserve the right to cancel or alter a class based on enrollment and scheduling changes; every effort will be made to notify class registrants of any changes 48 hours prior to class start. Participation in a Knitche class entitles you to a 10% discount on the purchase of yarn and notions directly associated with enrollment in the class. Use of yarn purchased at Knitche will ensure class consistency. When you register, we can provide you with a list of needed supplies.
